The US CFTC may relocate to the same building complex as the SEC, but the two agencies will not merge.

Gate News reports that on March 7, sources familiar with the matter revealed that the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are discussing plans to move into the same building in Washington. The building is located near Union Station, just steps from the U.S. Capitol.

According to sources, the plan does not involve merging the two agencies. The SEC and CFTC regulate different markets, and the discussion focuses on relocating the CFTC into the same building currently occupied by the SEC. This relocation has been under discussion since last year, and according to these sources, it may not be implemented until 2027 at the earliest. The General Services Administration, which oversees federal real estate, is also involved in these discussions.
