Trump Warns of New Strikes Against Iran's Oil Hub Kharg Island, Calls for European Assistance in Strait of Hormuz Navigation

Gate News reports that on March 15, according to The Financial Times on March 16, Trump warned that if U.S. allies do not assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz (a vital global oil shipping route), NATO will face a “very bad” future. Trump stated, “Those who benefit from the strait should help ensure that nothing bad happens there. Europe is highly dependent on oil from the Gulf region, and the U.S. is not. If there is no response, or if the response is negative, I believe the future of NATO will be very bleak.” When asked what kind of help is needed, Trump replied, “Any necessary assistance,” adding that allies should send mine-clearing ships (Europe has many more than the U.S.), as well as special forces or other military units to eliminate Iranian personnel who use drones and sea mines to cause trouble in the Gulf. Trump also warned that the U.S. is prepared to launch a new strike against Iran’s oil export hub, Kharg Island, and may target its oil infrastructure.
