Israel informs US of critical shortage in ballistic missile interceptor inventory; US says it was aware months ago

US officials revealed that Israel faces critical shortages in ballistic missile interceptors due to escalating conflict with Iran, with inventory already at low levels. Iran is equipping cluster munitions on its missiles, which could further strain Israel's stockpile pressure.

The US had anticipated Israel's insufficient interception capability and has not yet clarified whether it will provide interceptors.

According to Gate News, on March 14, US officials revealed that Israel informed the US this week that its ballistic missile interceptor supplies have become critical as the conflict with Iran continues to intensify. Sources indicate that Israel's interceptor inventory was already at low levels when entering the current war, with these munitions heavily consumed in last summer's conflict with Iran.

Under Iranian attacks, Israel's long-range defense systems have come under enormous pressure. Reports indicate that Iran is equipping cluster munitions on its missiles, which could further exacerbate Israel's inventory depletion.

A US official stated that the United States had already understood Israel's insufficient interception capability months ago: "This is something we anticipated and were prepared for." The official emphasized that the US's own interceptor inventory has not similarly become critical. It remains unclear whether the US will seek to sell or share its own interceptors with Israel, a move that would place pressure on US domestic supply. The US has previously included missile defense assets in military aid to Israel.
