CFTC Sues New York Over State Gambling Rules for Prediction Markets

The CFTC sued New York in federal court to block the state from applying gambling laws to federally regulated prediction market platforms. The agency asked for a declaratory judgment and a permanent injunction, arguing that federal law gives it exclusive authority over these markets. In a separate case, 37 states and Washington, D.C. backed Massachusetts against Kalshi over sports-related contracts.
